Default Strongest Skirmish/Solo/Gank Build for GvG

We're having a bit of an in-guild discussion atm around what build would be the strongest solo ganker/anti-ganker.

In the context of our discussion we were trying to establish what would, generally, be the strongest character to send back to back to defend against a split or offensively solo the other team's runner.

Obviously, no build is perfect, but I would say a BA Ranger would have the best mix of offense and defence in this position. Build is here: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Build:R...g_Arrow_Ranger

What does everyone else think and why?

Touch ranger.

Nothin beats soloing the lord with a toucher.

I can't see how a toucher is a strong solo character, a ganker or flagger would just kite it and laugh at you.

toucher=so old, too easy to counter, please move on to another build. personally I like either a grenths war or spoil victor war for guild lord, but if you want an all around build, I've found this great to tank solo and deal sufficient damage
D/X
Vital Boon
Victorious Sweep
Chilling Victory
Signet of Pious Light
Dust Cloak
Heart of Holy Flame
Twin Moon Sweep (optional)
Rez Sig

To counter a flag runner, I'd say take out dust cloak for a crip enchant. Juggling vital boon, heart of holy flame, and your third enchant while spaming sig of pious light makes for great tanking and energy management.

Burning Arrow ranger. However I will say that in general we drop the rez sig on our BA guy and put in pin down.

The above posters build is just silly.

its hard to counter water ele flaggers with melee, yaa is also a bit out of date, i agree with a BA ranger but i would like to see how well a boa sin would work.

They basically don't. At least, not on their own(give them nothing but offense and offensive utility -- expose defenses -- recall and a nice anchor and you have the most annoying build that populates the meta and a VERY strong gank, but on his own, a BoA sin doesn't have enough space on his bar to handle scoring kills on a gank, preventing shutdown, and surviving). The problem with the question is that the best solo ganker (BA ranger in my opinion) is almost an obsolete question as the best anti-ganker, a monk, is being run so often. And there is almost no way a ranger can do anything meaningful in the enemy base with a monk there, other than hold up a flagger. Fortunately, Burning Arrow is quite useful at the stand with pressure form degen and interupts as well as a solid backup flagger and, in case they don't have something to send back, a solo ganker. Ganks these days seem to be all about gank squads though as it takes more than one guy to overwhelm the easy to use and impossible to kill ZB or Shield of Regen Monks. If you want a great skirmish char, take a BA ranger, but I wouldn't expect to just split him off and not need assistance after a while.

A Pre-made Paladin, definitely. He can support allies/NPC's with Mending, and make people INVINCIBLE with Healing Hands in the same cast-time as Infuse!

a BA ranger is probably your best choice. Crippling Anguish mesmers are the strongest 1v1 I can think of right now.

Edit- Actually I don't know how well crip anguish runners do nowadays

Crip Anguish is pretty strong 1vs1, particularly with condition removal being so strong, but hex removal not being so common. Also, in hex builds they contribute really well at the stand.

Me/Mo

Crippling Anguish
Conjure Phantasm
Images of Remorse
Web of Disruption
Illusion of Haste
Mending Touch
Distortion
Resurrection Signet/Imagined Burden/Accumulated Pain

Generally though I agree with everyone saying Burning Arrow, mainly because of the value of both interrupts, along with the incredible survivability.

Agreed with Phelann, Valkier, Farin and GDS acout the burning arrow. It doesn't make much sense not to bring one when running a balanced build. Versatility, DPS, interrupts, and range, at the stand or on the gank. You need a flag run, you say? No problem!

We ran a solo split Dervish for most of the Winterseason in [ICE]. It was pretty terrible.
